Gitte Haenning<\/strong> (born 1946 in Aarhus) became\u2014much like young Conny Froboess did in Germany\u2014a teenage idol in her native Denmark as early as the 1950s. With the song \u201cIch will \u2019nen Cowboy als Mann\u201d<\/em> (\u201cI\n Want a Cowboy for a Husband\u201d), she won the German Schlager Festival in 1963.
<\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly afterwards, she and Rex Gildo became the dream couple of German schlager. But before long, Gitte felt she was being pushed into a box and began looking for her own path. She made films, turned to jazz, and continued to score\n hits with songs such as \u201cIch hab die Liebe verspielt in Monte Carlo\u201d<\/em> and \u201cSo sch\u00f6n kann doch kein Mann sein.\u201d<\/em> In 1973, she represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest.<\/p>\n

After a career low and a failed marriage to her manager, Gitte made a successful comeback in the late 1970s with songs like \u201cFreu Dich blo\u00df nicht zu fr\u00fch,\u201d \u201cIch will alles,\u201d<\/em> and \u201cIch bin stark.\u201d<\/em> She\n performed in theatre productions\u2014including Shakespeare and Rock \u2019n\u2019 Roll<\/em> and Sunset Boulevard<\/em>\u2014recorded in French, English, Italian, Finnish, Dutch, Spanish, German, and Danish, and was showered with\n awards, including the Platinum \u201cStimmgabel,\u201d the Golden Lion, and the Golden Camera.<\/p>\n
