Belina (1925\u20132006) is regarded as a bridge-builder between peoples and cultures through her folk repertoire.\n
\n <\/p>\n

Together with Berlin guitarist Siegfried Behrend (1933\u20131990), the Jewish-Polish artist traveled around the world in the 1960s as a \u201cmusical diplomat\u201d and sang in 17 languages. After the war, Belina chose the path of reconciliation\n and\u2014despite her traumatic experiences during the Nazi dictatorship\u2014campaigned for tolerance and equality among Germans, Jews, and other nations.<\/p>\n

For both of them, music was the only universal language, beyond origin, religion, and skin color. Their ambition to connect and to mediate was not only exemplary and courageous\u2014it remains strikingly relevant today in times of right-wing\n populism, racism, and refugee movements.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
